Emergency First Aid Guide

Critical first aid information for common emergencies. Remember to call for professional help first.

Heart Attack
1
Call emergency services immediately (108 or local number)
2
Have the person sit down, rest, and try to keep calm
3
Loosen any tight clothing
4
If prescribed, help them take nitroglycerin
5
If unconscious, begin CPR if trained

Do NOT leave the person alone except to call for help.

Choking
1
Ask "Are you choking?" If they can cough or speak, don't interfere
2
For adults/children: Perform abdominal thrusts (Heimlich maneuver)
3
For infants: Alternate back blows and chest thrusts
4
Continue until object is expelled or person becomes unconscious
5
If unconscious, begin CPR and call emergency services
Severe Bleeding
1
Call emergency services immediately
2
Remove any visible debris but don't remove large objects
3
Apply direct pressure with a clean cloth or bandage
4
If blood soaks through, add more cloth without removing the first layer
5
Elevate the injured area above heart level if possible

For amputations: Preserve the severed part in a clean, damp cloth and keep it cool.

Stroke (FAST Method)
F
Face drooping - Ask the person to smile
A
Arm weakness - Ask them to raise both arms
S
Speech difficulty - Ask them to repeat a simple sentence
T
Time to call emergency services if any of these signs are present

Note the time when symptoms first appeared - this is critical for treatment.

Seizures
1
Clear the area of hard or sharp objects
2
Cushion the person's head
3
Turn them gently onto one side to help breathing
4
Time the seizure - call emergency if it lasts more than 5 minutes
5
Stay with them until they're fully alert

Do NOT restrain them or put anything in their mouth.

Burn Treatment
1
Cool the burn with cool (not cold) running water for 10-15 minutes
2
Remove jewelry or tight clothing before swelling starts
3
Cover loosely with sterile, non-adhesive bandage
4
Don't break blisters or apply butter/ointments
5
Seek medical help for large, deep, or chemical/electrical burns
